Over the past twenty years Bill Smith has become a leading financial professional focused exclusively on the consumer products and retail industry. Over the course of his career, Mr. Smith has advised hundreds of apparel, retail and consumer products companies on general strategic initiatives, M&A strategy, and capital structure. He has structured and executed over one hundred transactions (mergers & acquisitions, IPO's, debt offerings, re-financings, restructurings, etc.) exceeding $10 billion in total transaction size. He is acknowledged as a market expert and is frequently cited in the press for his financial and industry knowledge.
Recently he founded, along with Christopher Burch, an experienced operator and venture capitalist, Global Reach Capital, LLC, a private equity fund focused on investing in branded consumer products companies. Prior to founding Global Reach Capital, Mr. Smith was President of Financo, Inc., one of the country's leading investment banking boutiques specializing in the retail, apparel, and home furnishings industries. Prior to Financo, Mr. Smith was Managing Director and Head of Kidder Peabody's retail investment banking group.
While at Financo, Mr. Smith was a founder and sat on the investment committee of Mercantile Capital Partners, a middle-market private equity fund focused on high-growth companies in the consumer products industry. Mercantile's investments took a variety of forms, including private company recapitalizations, growth equity investments, traditional acquisitions, leveraged transactions and structured-securities investments. Investments included among others Tommy Bahama, Partex, Le Gourmet Chef and Fresh Direct.
Mr. Smith received his MBA from Harvard Business School and a BS ¨C Business Degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
